Who are the Future Champions

first_imgMiddle Park and Dewhurst StakesNewmarket World Cup Qualifier2.35pm and 3.10pm, C4STRONG HAND FOR O’BRIENFuture Champions Day at Newmarket today with the spotlight on the two-year-olds in the Middle Park Stakes at the Dewhurst Stakes. There’s no denying that Aidan O’Brien has pitched Great White Eagle in the deep end of the swimming pool for this. The colt has had by far the least experience but did look very good when winning a Group 3 at the Curragh last time out following his maiden win at Naas.He puts his 2000 Guineas hopes on the line today and after the Curragh win O’Brien said: “What’s good about this horse is he has great pace and travels very strongly. We didn’t ask him to come forward from his last race, we just let him coast into this. Next time we’ll ask him to come forward a bit.“You couldn’t see him getting any further than a mile as he travels very strongly.”Clearly connections are expecting further improvement and he looks a worthy favourite.I’m less sure about O’Brien’s War Command in the Dewhurst. He looked a freak when winning the Coventry Stakes by six lengths but the form of that race has worked out very poorly subsequently and War Command was beaten at odds of 2/5 on his next start in a Group 1. Although he bounced back last time preference today is for the Godolphin runner Outstrip who impressed when winning the Group 2 Champagne Stakes at Doncaster last time out.STAR FORECAST(stake between 0.5 and 10 points)6 points win GREAT WHITE EAGLE at around 9/46 points win OUTSTRIP at around 13/8THE SPORTING GAME ?High schools in Kentucky have been ordered not to have post-game handshakes in any sports after more than 24 physical confrontations in the last three years.Match officials have also been told to immediately leave facilities after contests or risk being penalised. The state’s athletic sanctioning body, which gave the order, did not mention specific fights or conflicts, but said several sports had had post-game incidents. The organisation said it was “disappointing” to have had to take such action, but it had become necessary because of occurrences across the state and across the country.last_img
