This mornings Tuscaloosa County Commission meetin

first_imgThis morning’s Tuscaloosa County Commission meeting featured a fond farewell to Probate Judge Hardy McCollum.McCollum was first elected probate judge in 1976, and he’s been Tuscaloosa County’s probate judge and Tuscaloosa County Commission chairman for the past 42 years.“I call it a labor of love, because I love my community so much,” McCollum said. “It’s a bittersweet day, obviously.”Thanks to an Alabama law prohibiting candidates over the age of 70 from running for judge, McCollum could not seek re-election. But he’s not heading into retirement without some work lined up.“My wife and I are going to spend a few weeks and months decompressing, focusing on what our day-to-day activities will look like,” he said. “I’m sure there will be a lot of yard work and a lot of cleaning out the garage and a lot of things like that to be done.”His last act in office will be swearing in his replacement, Rob Robertson, on Jan. 14.last_img
