Stokes, Sibley heap pressure on Windies

first_imgMANCHESTER, England (AP):Ultra-careful centuries by Ben Stokes and Dom Sibley allowed England to declare against the Windies on 469-9 and reinforce their command of the second Test on day two yesterday.Giving themselves an hour to bowl at the visitors, England profited by dismissing John Campbell on 12 to leave the Windies at 32-1 at stumps and seeking a face-saving draw. The Windies won the first Test in Southampton last week as a front-runner, but they have trailed at Old Trafford for most of this Test after wasting the initiative on Thursday.Their morale was hammered on Friday as Stokes made 176 and Sibley 120 in a laborious stand worth 260, England’s biggest at home in nine years. The batsmen came together when England was a precarious 81-3 on Thursday afternoon and the Windies attack was finally focused, but Sibley, the opener, and Stokes hunkered down. Their crawl continued yesterday, increasing England’s advantage hour by painstaking hour.Sibley was first to a hundred – his second in Tests – just before lunch. He gave a big fist pump to celebrate his 312-ball century, the slowest in Test cricket since November 2014, when Tamim Iqbal also needed 312 balls for Bangladesh against Zimbabwe.Stokes, on 99 at lunch, soon after brought up his 10th Test hundred with a reverse sweep. It was his fourth hundred in 12 Tests.Sibley’s innings ended when he tried to up the run rate. He smashed spinner Roston Chase to Kemar Roach as he ran round from midwicket. Sibley faced 372 balls for his second highest Test score, behind only the 133 he made against South Africa in Cape Town in January. He hit only five boundaries in more than nine hours at the crease.Ollie Pope was then trapped plumb in front of the stumps on seven by Chase, but Stokes, joined in the middle by Jos Buttler, had already begun to take advantage of the tired West Indian fast bowlers.Stokes was dropped on 157 by Shai Hope at gully off Shannon Gabriel, and eventually dismissed after tea on 176, his second highest Test score.Stokes tried to reverse Roach and edged behind. He faced 356 balls, and hit two sixes and 17 fours.Roach earned his first wicket since August 2019, 71 overs into this series. Then he got another off the next delivery, when Chris Woakes edged his first ball to gully.Buttler added 40 and Sam Curran 17, giving Chase a fifth wicket, though Roach bowled more impressively to return 2-58 from 33 overs.England should have been all out, but Gabriel failed to run out Stuart Broad with the stumps at his mercy, and Roach let a shot from Dom Bess pass through his hands and over the boundary for a six.Bess and Broad earned a bonus 20-plus runs as they plundered 42 runs from 39 balls before the declaration.Broad, who had been angered at being dropped from the first test, opened the England attack but a wicket wasn’t taken until medium-pacer Sam Curran replaced Woakes and trapped Campbell after a review.Fellow opener Kraigg Brathwaite was six not out, and nightwatchman Alzarri Joseph was 14 not out.last_img read more

That 49ers cap was no alteration or new logo like the other Nike caps though. It was simply removing the oval aspect of the logo. Same with the Raiders one, just removal of the shield. Not saying New Era is doing the same with all logos, it’s just that it’s the same concept for those two teams Here’s the Browns version: 0 Link to post 1,005 837 Location:DC area Link to post WSU151 1,364 2,828 posts Share on other sites Share this post Share on other sites Share on other sites Sports Logos
 48 WSU151 Banned Share this post Location:Cincinnati Link to post Is it just me, or are there two stripes on the logo on the hat, one being off centered? This could be a simple thing for them to do to change the look of their helmet. They would need a black helmet to make it work. That’s why the shield currently works…it provides a black background. The Steve Young photo above is from a line of Nike hats in the mid-late 90s that used alternate logos and/or the initial letter of a wordmark, to create baseball-style hat logos. None of the logos were official. They were introduced in 1999 or 2000. The Vikings’ V became popular, and the Patriots ended up adopting the NE logo to be used on merchandise only. 0 Posted March 25, 2014 Link to post 2,083 Share this post Mascot Turned Announcer Members But it’s essentially the same approach. The Nike one was a little more angular to match the B from the wordmark they used at the time. 5 The 49ers did that beforeMy favorite hat growing up, the look and the fit.Even got yelled at by Giants employee for wearing it at ATT. Back in 2002 got free tickets to the NLCS by the dugout. No way I was going to wear or cheer for anything Giants. So figured I would be safe wearing that hat there. A worker was all I cant believe you’re wearing that here.. blah blah blah..and so on. I was like umm it’s a 49ers hat.. Just got a reply oh sorry, thought you were wearing a Cardinals hat. I remember it being used when they signed Randy Moss back when Reebok did the uniforms. Its been around but mainly used for the free agent signings. There’s no second stripe. Use common sense here – why would there be a thicker, poorly stitched off-center stripe that isn’t black, especially when the second stripe doesn’t show up in the graphic next to it?last_img read more
