The show’s matriarch, Debra Jo Rupp, is now starring off-Broadway as sex therapist Dr. Ruth Westheimer in Mark St. Germain’s solo play Becoming Dr. Ruth. On October 23, Rupp welcomed former TV co-stars Laura Prepon (now featured on the Netflix series Orange Is the New Black) and Danny Masterson, along with Masterson’s actress wife Bijou Phillips, to the Westside Theatre. The Simply Elite is performing The Nutcracker this weekend

first_imgSumner Newscow report — This weekend the Little Theater at the Wellington Middle School will be transformed into a magical place as The Simply Elite School of Dance & Gymnastics performs Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker. Simply Elite will showcase 65 student cast members, nine guest cast members and four instructor cast members. Paquita Dance Center’s student, Allison Schwab, will be dancing the role of Sugar Plum Fairy and Vance Doeden will dance as the Cavalier.Performances are Saturday, Dec. 8 at 6 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 9 at 4 p.m.  Admission is $5 at the door. Children 3 and under are free).“Our studio is also fortunate to have a very talented young man, Taylor Robbins, dancing as the Nutcracker Prince,” said Elizabeth Shimer, owner of Simply Elite.Joining the young men in the Nutcracker performance this weekend will be our soloist ladies: Raegan Raschke (on pointe) as a Magical Doll and Dew Drop Fairy, Gabrielle Cramer and Zoe Dawdy as Magical Twin Dolls, London Pourner as Harlequin Doll, Kayla Billington as Mouse Queen, Zellissa Johnson (on pointe) as Snow Queen, and Callie Burden as Clara.“All of our soloists have danced for many years with our studio,” Shimer said. There is an amazing group of guest cast members whom this production would not be possible without: Levi Burden as Dr. Stahlbaum, Tyler Dawdy as a Party Boy; Quinn McCue, Chris Dawdy, Jake Ewing and Justin Craig as Party Parents; Thomas Hollman will play the role of Arabian Prince; Paquita Dance Center’s Vance Doeden will dance as the Cavalier; and Allison Schwab from Paquita Dance Center (on pointe) will perform as Sugar Plum Fairy.“Our ballet instructors are sometimes called to go above and beyond the call of duty,” Shimer said.Along with choreographing many of the dances, Alyssa Butler will play the role of Maid, Desi Schwartz the role of Frau Stahlbaum; Jennifer Berryman will dance as Mother Ginger; and Jenny Hollman plays the role of Herr Drosselmeyer with her sidekick bunny, Zoey Schwartz.“Our cast of performers from the littlest cookies to the graduating seniors all work together to create our production and make it an incredible event you won’t want to miss,” Shimer said.Follow us on Facebook.Follow us on Twitter.
