After a slow start, the Lady Devils pulled away behind strong offensive efforts from Avery Harper and Staci Dinsmore to improve their record to 2-0 on the year.“We still need to be more consistent through the whole game,” said Coach Davis. “We did a nice job of attacking the paint and glass and using our size advantage. The girls shared the basketball well, finding the open man and getting the open shots.”Harper’s big night consisted of a 23-point effort and 8 of those came in the first quarter which ended with North Adams on top 16-8. In the second stanza, the Lady Devils got three baskets each from Dinsmore and Lakyn Hupp, outscoring the Lady Cats 22-15 to open up a double digit halftime lead at 38-23.After the break, North Adams got a balanced third quarter with six different girls getting in the scoring column. With a 20-11 advantage in the quarter, the lead swelled to 58-34 with just eight minutes of action left. With Coach Davis substituting freely in the final period, the Devils got a pair of baskets from Taylor Hesler and coasted home with the 68-41 triumph, opening their SHAC schedule successfully. The Lady Devils shot 42% from the field for the game (30-72) and were led by Avery Harper’s 23 points. Harper turned in a double-double night as she also hauled down 12 rebounds. Staci Dinsmore scored 16 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, had 6 steals, and added 4 assists. Lakyn Hupp scored 9, while Taylor Hesler and Grace McDowell added 8 each. Hesler also chipped in 4 assists and 5 steals and McDowell added 5 boards.“It was nice to get our first league win,” said Coach Davis. “Now we have to begin to focus on a very talented Eastern Brown team.”The game Coach Davis was referring to will take place on Monday, Nov. 30 as the Lady Devils travel to Eastern Brown for an early season SHAC showdown, which is sure to draw a capacity crowd. The JV game on Tuesday night was the JV coaching debut for North Adams’ Tony Williams and it was a “no contest” debut as his Lady Devils routed Whiteoak 60-6. Every player on the North Adams roster entered the scoring column, led by 15 points from Brooklyn Stout and 11 from Adison Wright. The Lady Devils led at every stop, 19-3, 30-4, 37-6, and 60-6.“I was proud of everyone’s effort tonight,” said Williams. ” We ran our sets well and it was good to see everyone contribute like they did.” last_img read more
