Term mental health has become a euphemism for mental illness. This is in contrast to what it should be for, mental health is the most valued asset we have, the most treasured aspect of humanity. This is precisely why when people are generally asked to compare different health conditions, mental health problems are what we fear the most. So, now one would expect that mental health would be most prioritized issues but sadly it’s quite far from reality.WHO states: Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. An important implication of the definition is that mental health is more than just the absence of mental disabilities or disorders.Why is mental and emotional health really important?Mental and emotional health is important because it’s an indispensable part of your life, it majorly influences your emotions, your behaviour and your lifestyle. It plays an important part in maintaining your relationships healthy, cope up with work efficiently and more productively and to cope up with the adversity. You have a better approach towards life and healthy mind helps you think clearly towards different perspectives of life.What can you do to improve your mental health?1.     Take out 15-20 minutes to exercise/yoga/meditation daily (as it’s said exercising relieves stress, improves memory & helps you sleep better).2.     Daily write it down something you are grateful for.3.     Watch, read or listen to something positive, it can have a powerful impact on how you feel.4.     Eat a good meal (food makes us all happy right ), try eating food items which nourish your body as well your mind.5.     Stop getting influenced by looking at other peoples pictures on social media and stop comparing your life with their life.6.      Open up to someone, break the walls around you and try speaking to your close one, it will improve your emotional well being as you will find different positive approach towards your situation.7.     Take a break, when you feel like its too much stressing, sit outside in open air, close your eyes and a deep breath, listen to your favourite music, this work wonders.8.   Go to bed on time, sleep deprivation has a significant negative effect on your mood.You have the power to take positive steps right now to improve your resilience and emotional health.last_img read more
