All thanks to the string of rumours and leaks that kept pouring in like the rain. But Google killed that buzz by leaking an image of upcoming flagship device – the Google Pixel 4 – on Twitter.”Well, since there seems to be some interest, here you go! Wait ’til you see what it can do. #Pixel4,” Google tweeted along with a image of the Pixel 4 that gave away a number of details – and in the process confirming a number of leaks – about one of most anticipated smartphones of the year. For starters we know that the Google Pixel 4 will come with a dual rear camera setup that would be housed inside a square shaped camera module on the top left corner of the phone’s back – confirming some of the latest leaks. Then there is the case of the missing rear mounted fingerprint sensor. While no one knows for certain if Google will opt for an in-display fingerprint sensor or if Google is planning to ditch the fingerprint sensor altogether but what we know for sure is that Pixel 4 will be different from Pixel 3 (and all older Pixel smartphones) in more than one way as far as the design is concerned. And this is just the tip of the iceberg or the conclusions that can be deduced from the image ‘leaked’ by Google.Despite the image leak, there a number of things – apart from the front of the phone — that we still don’t know about the Google Pixel 4. Probably, Google will be more generous in sharing details about the Pixel 4 in the months leading up to the phone’s October launch. Or may be not.advertisementAmid the season of rumours and leaks, one cannot help but wonder why would Google tease an image of its upcoming smartphone months before its launch. Granted, the image doesn’t reveal much and it does leave room for speculations (plenty of those), but the question still lingers – why?So here are a couple of theories as to why Google might have decided to leak image of Pixel 4 Ahead of its launch:Taking down the competition: Rumours for months now have been hinting towards the Apple iPhone 11 touting a dual rear camera setup with a square camera bump. Leaks in the past have even detailed the thickness of iPhone 11’s camera bump. If Google is indeed planning to introduce a square shaped camera module, which thanks to the image we know it would, it would make sense for the company to tout the feature first and dodge reports of copying a feature.Taking control of the gossips: The issue with the flagship devices is that leaks and tips often reveal so many details about the phone that when a company actually launches the phone, it is often a let down. This happened in case of the Google Pixel 3 and this happened in case of the Google Pixel 3a. However, by teasing an image of the Pixel 4, Google in a way is taking control of the narrative and giving fans and loyalists some juicy gossip – straight from the source — to talk about.Keeping the buzz alive: A lot of tech company these days start teasing details about their upcoming smartphone launches months ahead of the actual launch date. This, on one hand, reduces the focus on the buzz created by the tipsters, on the other hand, it helps in building a certain momentum among fans that makes the event a grand success. And so, leaking image of the Pixel 4 could actually be Google’s way of adopting a new strategy for keeping the buzz about Pixel 4 alive.Diverting focus to specs and design: We all know that Pixel 4 will be bigger and better (okay, may be not bigger) than Pixel 3 and that it would come with some cool features. How do I know this? The credit goes to 9To5 Google, which in a report said that Pixel 4 would come with the company’s Soli radar chip. If this is true, Pixel 4, as the company said, would be able to perform some really cool tricks. What those tricks are, we don’t know yet. But may be leaking an image of Pixel 4 is the company’s way of throwing the focus off such things to somewhat mundane things like design and specs so that the features remain a grand mystery until the launch.Throwing tipsters off track: Like I said, before Google shared an official image of the Pixel 4, internet was full of reports claiming that they had the image of upcoming smartphone. Sharing an image of Pixel 4 from its official Twitter page could be a diversionary tactics used by Google to thow the tipsters off track. While they would work on the roadmap provided by the Pixel 4 image leak, Google would surprise the world with an astonishing new design.advertisementALSO READ: | Google Pixel 4 to get support for hand gestures using Soli radar chipALSO READ: | Google Pixel 4 image leaks show a notch-less design, but there is a catchALSO READ: | Google confirms Pixel 4 is real but many details remain unknown and rumours still continue to swirlGet real-time alerts and all the news on your phone with the all-new India Today app. Download from Post your comment Do You Like This Story?
